Selective editorial profile checked 5 October 2026 UTC. Family history and Shark’s attribution use company evidence; Borsa independently corroborates the historical delisting. Current website operator and the 2026 acquisition have separate dated records. Current Damiani share percentages remain unknown.

1924: begin with a workshop in Valenza

Damiani’s corporate history dates Enrico Damiani’s founding activity in Valenza to 1924. The place matters as a production context, rather than merely a name printed beneath a logo. The house grew around making jewels, then developed the commercial organisation needed to present and distribute them. Its later group identity should not be projected backwards onto the founder’s original business.

The company account credits his son Damiano with industrial and commercial expansion during the 1960s, including collection catalogues and customer price guarantees. These are stages in a manufacturer’s own retrospective history. A catalogue makes designs repeatable and recognisable, but a documented commercial development is not proof that the firm invented every related practice. The profile follows specific events without adopting the archive’s broad superiority claims.

The family story changes scale

The same history places the third generation’s entry in the early 1990s and describes management passing to Gabriella and the children after Damiano’s death in 1996. Succession here concerns responsibilities within a business as well as a family name. It is useful to ask who designed, who managed and which legal entity held an activity, rather than giving every kind of authorship to the surname.

The July 2026 joint acquisition announcement describes the group’s third-generation management through Guido, Silvia and Giorgio. That current statement and the older archive are complementary dated records. They establish a family-management narrative without supplying a current percentage owned by each relative. Family-managed, family-controlled and wholly family-owned are different claims; the last two need appropriate capital and control evidence.

1976: Gabriella’s Shark bracelet

The 2012/2013 annual report records Shark as the bracelet that received Damiani’s first Diamonds International Award in 1976. It describes yellow gold and platinum with more than 41 carats of white diamond pavé, and another section calls it Bocca di Squalo and attributes the design to Gabriella Damiani. This is a concrete combination of name, maker, materials and recognition, reported retrospectively by the company.

The bracelet invites a different reading from a jewel organised around one large central stone. Pavé distributes diamonds across a surface, letting many small bright points contribute to a larger form. Gold and platinum belong to that material composition, rather than disappearing from the description behind the carat total. The shark name can guide an imaginative response, but it does not establish a particular hinge, clasp or opening mechanism without further construction evidence.

A house can coordinate more than one workshop

The annual report distinguishes the parent company from the group’s jewellery brands and describes both owned production and outsourced production, mainly in the Valenza area. That is an account of its organisation during the reporting period ending 31 March 2013. It should not be silently turned into a statement that every present-day Damiani jewel is made entirely within one owned building.

The distinction also helps explain what a maker attribution can mean. A house may conceive a collection, set specifications and coordinate specialist work across several operations. A finished jewel still needs evidence for the particular roles being claimed. Design authorship, manufacture, retail sale and the trademark on a box can overlap, but they do not automatically name the same person or company at every stage.

2007 and 2019: public trading is a separate chapter

Damiani’s archive explicitly dates its Milan stock-market listing to November 2007. The later offer documents identify Leading Jewels S.A., a Luxembourg company, as the bidder for the issuer described as Casa Damiani S.p.A., also abbreviated Damiani S.p.A. The 2018 notice documents a family and holding-company chain. It is a dated legal arrangement, rather than a timeless diagram of the house.

The completion notice records the remaining-share purchase procedure and delisting from 26 April 2019. Borsa Italiana’s own statistical list corroborates that date. The transaction-stage percentages in offer results have defined parties and calculation bases; they should not be reused as current individual family holdings. A reader can understand the move from listed issuer to private control without inventing a present-day capital table.

The jewellery brand is one part of a portfolio

The wider group’s expansion is another story. Damiani’s archive records Calderoni in 2006 and full control of Rocca in September 2008. The dated 2026 joint announcement describes a portfolio containing jewellery houses, retail and glassmaking activities, and confirms completion of the group’s acquisition of 100% of Baume & Mercier on 1 July 2026. That percentage belongs to the acquired watch business.

It does not mean that Baume & Mercier made Damiani’s earlier jewels, or that 100% of Damiani belongs to an unnamed buyer. The announcement also states that Richemont would provide interim operational services and leaves financial terms undisclosed. Acquisition, service provision and brand identity can therefore coexist as different relationships. A corporate map should label those relationships before drawing a line between two familiar names.

Reader exercise: make two records

For Shark, make an object record with four headings: design name, attributed designer, documented materials and dated recognition. Add a separate sentence explaining that the source is a later issuer report. Then make a company record with the brand, issuer, historical bidder and latest documented group transaction in separate fields.

Compare the two records. The diamond carat total belongs to an object description; a share percentage belongs to a defined transaction or capital table. Neither number explains the other. Finally, sketch a plain surface covered with small dots beside one with a single central circle. Use the contrast to think about distributed sparkle and focal points, without reproducing the proprietary bracelet or treating the sketch as a gemological test.
